This yacht was built in 1926 at the N. V. Capello shipyard in Zwartsluis, the Netherlands. At that time she was named Hans II, had a steam engine and was used to transport live eels. 10 years later it was sold to the Swedes, in exchange for the equivalent of one full vessel load (25 tons of eels), then she changed her name to Sven Wilhelm. She sailed under the Swedish flag until 1977, when she was withdrawn and slated for decommissioning. The rusting wreck was encountered a year later by Yngve Victor Gottlow, who decided to rebuild her into a sailing ship. At the beginning of a 7-year renovation, she was named Dominique Fredion (the name still appears on the ship's bell) in honor of his wife. Worth mentioning is the gallion that commemorates the past that the lovely ship has behind her, it is a woman entwined with an eel. Initially as a ketch, then a schooner and finally, after the renovation (with interior rebuilding) she became a brigantine in 2004. July 6, 2019 was one of the most important days in the new history of the ship, when the white and red flag was raised on her flagship and the home port was changed to Gdansk. That day Poland gained another A-class sailing ship.
